NYSERDA and Chase Partner to Improve and Finance Home Energy Efficiency

On September 20, 2012, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and Chase launched an email campaign to educate customers about their home energy consumption and for consumers to be able to use their existing chase home equity lines of credit to finance the retrofits. Over the next four months, about 50,000 Chase customers will receive monthly emails with information on ways to make their homes more energy- and cost-efficient through appliance and furnace upgrades, insulation improvements, and installation of solar energy and high efficiency water-heating systems through NYSERDA programs and to finance the installations using their home equity lines of credit.   NYSERDA is not providing any funding or credit enhancement for the financing, and the customers borrow against their line of credit at the normal rate.  In addition to lowering a home’s utility bills and environmental footprint, these upgrades may make homeowners eligible for a clean energy renovation tax credit. To streamline the financing for these measures, Chase is enabling its customers to use their home equity line of credit to make improvements.
