The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) newly proposed rules aimed at reducing energy consumption in commercial refrigerators and walk-in coolers and freezers are expected to reduce energy spending by $28 billion over 30 years and reduce carbon emissions by 350 million metric tons in the same period if made final. The proposed rules come as part the Obama Administration’s Climate Action Plan announced in June 2013.
