The Wisconsin Department of Administration's State Energy Office recently announced it is awarding nearly $1million to 53 state motor carriers to help fund diesel truck idling reduction technologies.
According to a press release, diesel truck idling reduction equipment provides an alternative source of power to heat, cool, or provide electricity to the cab and parts of the truck instead of operating the truck’s main drive engine equipment. Each unit typically saves more than 900 gallons of fuel each year, as well as providing a significant reduction in diesel fuel pollutants.
In order to be eligible to participate in the Diesel Truck Idling Reduction Grant Program, the trucking company must be headquartered in Wisconsin. The State Energy Office provides grants annually to reimburse freight motor carriers up to 50 percent of their cost to purchase and install idling reduction units on their truck-tractor sleeper cab vehicles purchased after 1999.
