On May 24, 2023, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced a $10 million investment to support clean hydrogen research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) projects across New York. The initiative, which will be administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), will provide co-funding to research, development and deployment projects that help address challenges associated with decarbonizing hard-to-electrify sectors. The funding will be available to New York-based entities also seeking federal funding and will support projects that drive innovation across four key areas, including: hydrogen applications to decarbonize industrial process heat; clean hydrogen production and integration with renewable energy; mitigation of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from hydrogen combustion; and hydrogen storage technologies. New York is also part of the Northeast Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub application. More information about the funding opportunity and NYSERDA’s work in clean hydrogen can be found here.
