NASEO Issues Manufacturing and Energy Report Focused on Technical Assistance and State and Territory Energy Office Roles

Source: NASEO

The National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO) has released Manufacturing and Energy: Advancing Productivity, Prosperity, and the Environment - An Overview of Industrial Technical Assistance for State and Territory Energy Offices. This report was supported by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office (IEDO). It provides an overview of the importance of manufacturing to states and the multiple roles that State and Territory Energy Offices can take to help advance manufacturing competitiveness and productivity while furthering their states’ economic, energy, and environmental objectives. Among these roles are raising awareness, uptake, and coordination of industrial technical assistance programs; supporting technology advancement; and including manufacturing considerations in state energy policies and planning.

The report centers on technical assistance programs and resources offered by DOE and other federal agencies as well as from from states, universities, and other organizations to help industrial firms, including small and medium-sized manufacturers, to improve their energy management, environmental stewardship, and competitiveness. Multiple vignettes illustrate how states are working across agencies and programs to help individual companies and, more broadly, their vital manufacturing sectors.

The report was produced in conjunction with the NASEO State Industrial Working Group, a DOE IEDO supported forum bringing together State Energy Offices, economic development organizations, and technical assistance providers to identify, develop, and enhance resources to help manufacturing industries meet their goals and state objectives.
