State and Territory Energy Offices and their partners play an important role in supporting sustainable, energy efficient, and healthy K-12 public school facilities. For State Energy Offices, school energy programs can be an opportunity to support multiple goals – workforce development, help communities manage their energy costs, support community resilience, increase student and teacher energy literacy, and lower emissions. As a result, State Energy Offices and fellow state agencies have established programs supporting data management, governance, planning, assessment, funding and financing, facilities management, standards setting, and STEM education, offering state-level capacity for technical support to local educational agencies. The map below summarizes notable facilities-focused energy and indoor air quality programs from various state agencies. State Energy Offices may use this resource to identify program implementation models and interagency collaboration opportunities.
